Why play with a caddie on a course you don't know
On holiday you usually play each course once. A local caddie knows which greens break more than they look, where the trouble hides off the tee and how the wind behaves on each hole. That knowledge is worth several shots, and it lets you enjoy the round instead of searching for the next tee or your ball.
What a golf caddie does
- Carries your bag and keeps your clubs clean and ready.
- Gives you yardages to the flag, the front and back of the green and the hazards, allowing for wind and slope.
- Helps with club selection and strategy: where to aim and where to stay away from.
- Reads the greens with you: break, speed and line.
- Looks after the course: divots, bunkers and the flag.
- Keeps the pace and helps find your ball.
Under the Rules of Golf (Rule 10) you may have one caddie at a time, your caddie may give you advice, and you are responsible for anything your caddie does.
Caddie or forecaddie?
A caddie works for one player and carries their bag. A forecaddie looks after a group of two to four players, walks ahead to see where the balls land and helps everyone with yardages, greens and pace; forecaddies usually do not carry bags, so they go well with a buggy or trolley.
Cost and tipping
There is no single price: it depends on the course, on 9 or 18 holes and on the caddie's level (basic, intermediate or expert). On Caddify each caddie sets their own rate, you see the exact price before booking and pay by card in the app, with an invoice for every round.
Tips are not included and not mandatory, but they are customary if you enjoyed the round. Give it in cash to your caddie at the end.
English-speaking caddies
At every course on Caddify, all the caddies speak English. Many also speak Spanish, Catalan and other languages, and each profile shows the languages that caddie speaks.
